Newer HP LaserJet printers use DIMMS and there are two types supported - EDO DIMMS and SDRAM DIMMS. They have similar specifications and both will function in the printer. EDO technology that retains data in memory while the processor continues with other operations. This memory is single-tasking.??EDO memory specifications are the following: 100 pin, 32 bit , 60ns, 3.3 volts, 1K refresh rate. SDRAM allows the processor to continue with other operations while the memory chip is retrieving data. This memory is multi-tasking. SDRAM memory specifications are the following: 100 pin, 32 bit, 66Mhz, 3.3 volts, 1K refresh rate. Both EDO and SDRAM conform to the JEDEC standard and they can be mixed within the printer. They do not need to be used in pairs. Both are unbuffered. Neither EDO nor SDRAM support error correction. EDO is typically less expensive and may be more desirable for cost-conscious individuals where SDRAM will be the memory of the future.
